There is much debate about whether saturated fats are good for you, and part of the confusion comes from categorizing all saturated fats together. The truth is that not all saturated fats are the same. Saturated fats from animal sources are made up mostly of long-chain fatty acids, our bodies have to work hard to break down these fats. Although coconut oil is also saturated fat, it is made up of medium-chain fatty acids (MCTs) and it is this property of coconut oil that makes it different and healthier from other saturated fats.
